Technical Details - Window Art Nouveau
One of the biggest issues in protected houses from before ‘80’s, are the windows. In the time, the woodwork was unique for each of the master works. The windows were also single glassed which don't add up to the today's ecological norms.
To change the glass, people often hire a specialist in woodwork to remove the frame, remake it so that double glass is possible and put it back. This equals a huge amount of money and time, and the originality of the woodwork, that in some of the cases is hundred years old and still in a good condition, gets lost.
What my solution is for some of those cases, is to pay a closer attention to the details of the window. Being an interior architect doesn't mean to make big changes to provide a better life for the user. Sometime a very small change can make a big difference and I went after those aspects and found them.
I want to keep the original window frame and by adding a small wooden frame, make a double glass of 4-6-4 thickness possible. I also want to keep the delicacy of the window that is the reason why I chose the thinnest double glass 10 mm in the market. The existent frame makes a 4-12-4 also possible with, but I wanted to keep the fineness of the visual appearance of the window as much as possible. In the pictures below the page, you can see a section model made of wood that shows the added frames by me in black.
