Back to Basic Work
This project was a collaboration between me and the rest of the BUR∞* team. The building is a storage place that is currently used for the facade of Hôtel Aubec by Horta. The Storage place is supposed to be demolished in two years and our job was to find a solution to use this place. The focus of this project is the sustainability and the durability of the building. We did a lot of research on the lightning that provides the best environment for the plants, the best way of heating, acoustics etc. We also maintained to use the most durable materials and the most important, use the concept AND actions of cradle-to-cradle.
We came up with the idea of creating a meeting place between young and old, no age restrictions. A place designed to be accessible to everyone, whether a child on his scooter, a seniors or people with restrictions. We wanted to make the knowledge of the seniors available for today's generation. Based on different interviews with children between the age 5-16 we see that in the today's society , the children don't know a lot of handcrafts anymore and don't know how some of products are made and where they come from and that is because of the fast society and the mass production, everything is ready made.
We wanted to bring that knowledge back in different fields like cooking, making handcrafts, gardening and reading. By letting the people work with their hands and by creating their needs by them selves they will create band with the person with who they are working with and sharing the knowledge they have from generation to generation.
